It’s deep Winter.  Depending on where you live, it could be a mild Winter or a bitter-cold, deep-snow, wind-whipping chiller.  And as is normal, its about this time of year where your spouse is starting to tell you to get out of the house… go find something to do… simply because you’re driving her up a wall!  Uh huh!  Sounds familiar doesn’t it?

Most other fly fisherman are gettin’ the same looks from their spouses, and as luck would have it now is the time of year when many local fly fishing shows occur.  Never been to a fly fishing show?  Oh wow, these are great.  Most are hosted by local fly fishing clubs are other related fly fishing organizations, and the exhibitors can run the gamut from regional outfitters, fly shops, as well as factory reps from the major gear manufacturers.  You get to spend a day walking around looking at new gear, talking to friends and fellow anglers, and day-dream about the coming spring when you’ll get back out on your favorite river, spring creek, or lake.

If you can’t find one of these shows, look in your local newspaper.  Most all of these are advertised a couple weeks in advance in the outdoor section.  Or, if not there simply do a search on the internet and you’re likely to find one within 20 miles of your home.  If you’re in the Michigan area, the Midwest Fly Fishing Expo is right around the corner, Saturday, March 11th, and Sunday, March 12th.  Hosted at the Macomb County Community Sports and Expo Center in Warren, MI, it is a safe bet that you’ll enjoy a day out of the house – and your spouse will too.
